Life before Situation before our support:
Wandera Benard 12 year’s old young boy born in one village found in Buhenye community. Before, Benard was living in a hard life after losing both parents who succumbed to HIV/ AIDS. Benard was left in the hands of an elderly grandmother who could not do anything for survival and this turned Bernard into a household head. Because of this situation that befell him, he stopped going to school because of looking after his elderly grandmother.
Benard resorted to doing some casual work whenever he was sent away from school for example collecting sand and washing trapping nets at the landing site for the people who were at time paying him some little money but still this was not enough to support him fully. There was no any extra support since the bread winners had all passes on. Benard Wandera was found at the landing site collecting sand for people at the time he was identified by the filming crew as a vulnerable child living as a child household head.
Nature of Intervention:
As a result, Benard was enrolled on ChildFund sponsorship program. This triggered immediate support as the filming crew offer a Non Sponsorship fund to cater for Benard & his family. Consequently, Benard was supported with a one year tuition and scholastic materials in addition to taking him back to school in a boarding section. While the grandmother was supported with heifers, goats and grinding machine as an income generating enterprise.
Life After our support;
Benard Wandera is now studying hard in boarding school without being sent away like before. The grinding machine is now generating some money for Bernard’s family and it is easy now to buy basic needs for the family. As a result of this support, Benard now attends school and his future plan of becoming a teacher is now possible. The grinding mill is now providing the grandmother with income to sustain her family and also pay fees for Bernard. Benard’s family is expecting to start milking the heifer where they will sell part of the milk and they will consume some.
Future plan:
Ensuring that Bernard Wandera remains in school and becomes successful in his education and this shall transform his life into a successful person.
Conclusion:
The grand mother, uncle and Benard Wandera as a family are so happy and they appreciate the support they are receiving from the organization.
The family urges the organization to continue with the same support to Benard Wandera, the family and the community at large.
