Educated and Confident Children
As a result of poverty, the illness or death of a parent, and inadequate infrastructure, some children do not attend school on a regular basis. Special attention is directed to orphans and vulnerable children to encourage school attendance. Teachers and peer educators are trained to provide psycho-social support for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Primary school teachers have received training in methods for improving academic performance. School- based committees have been established to promote student discussion of and participation in child protection issues. BUACOFE also supports school improvements through construction of classrooms, teacher housing, and latrines; provision of desks, chairs, teaching materials, and books; and sponsoring co-curricular competitions in drama, art, and dance.
